APRIL WORKSHOPS!

Sewing Lab: Machine Basics

Sunday April 11th OR Sunday April 18th 12-2pm

Class Fee: $18

Did you get a new sewing machine? Do you spend more time staring at or fiddling with your sewing machine than actually putting it to use? Emily of Umbrella Girl Productions has been sewing for over two decades and can certainly help you win the battle between human and machine. She specializes in older models but can also work a basic modern machine (no computerized models, please). Additionally we will talk about patterns, selecting fabrics, and sewing notions. Proper maintenance and care will also be covered during this lab. In order to ensure personalized instruction, the lab is limited to 3 people, so reserve your spot quickly!

Introduction to Embroidery

Sunday April 11th 2-3:30pm

Class Fee $20 (all materials included)

Do you dream of having a stitched pinup or darling dachshund on your pillow or skirt? Well here’s your chance to make it happen! In this workshop, you will learn several basic embroidery stitches and how to put them to use in your own designs. Also, you’ll learn multiple fun and easy image transfer methods to ensure that almost any image will be ready to be rocked (with an embroidery needle) onto your fabric. Local designer and super fun instructor AmyD has been incorporating embroidery into her designs for years and will share all the best tricks of the trade!


Beginning Knitting

Sundays April 11th and 25th 3:30-5pm

Class Fee: $25

Materials Needed: 1 skein worsted weight (medium thick) yarn and size 11 knitting needles.

Keep your hands busy this season with a skill that’s both relaxing and productive! Knitting creates calm and a plethora of warm accessories and great gifts. This class is for absolute beginners---we’ll start with the basics and move on up to some serious scarf making. Seasoned knitter Adrienne of the Crafty Beavers will teach us casting-on, basic knit and purl stitches, changing colors, and casting-off. In this class we’ll make an ipod/cell phone cozie and start work on a scarf.

Introduction to Needlefelting

Wednesday, April 14th 6-8pm

Class Fee: $15, Materials Fee: $15 (all materials included)

A super fun, easy-to-learn craft with tons of possibilities! With the basic skills you learn in this workshop, you can create any number of 2D and 3D objects and creatures made entirely of wool. In the workshop itself, you’ll learn a dry needle felting technique and use this to create a 3D needlefelt appliqué on flat felt background. It fun and great for beginners!

Sewing Lab: Patterns and Alterations

Sunday, April 25th 12-2pm

Class Fee: $18

Are you trying to alter a garment and it's just not working? Or just puzzled by a pattern? Please bring any sewing supplies, fabric, your pattern, and a sewing machine (if needed) and with the help of sewing expert, Emily of Umbrella Girl Productions, you’ll "make it work" An excellent lab option for anyone trying to move their skills to the next level!

Snacktacular!

Snacktacular! explores some of our familiar, favorite snack foods - from bakery sweets to carnival treats. Multimedia artist Amy Neiwirth brings her love of food and miniatures to the wall gallery for it’s second show of the year, curated by Stephanie Rond. Amy currently teaches art at the Columbus Torah Academy and is the creative genius behind Sweet Stella Designs. She is also a member of several local arts groups including the Couchfire Collective, Columbus Crafty Cotillion, CAW: Creative Arts of Women, and the Ohio Art League.
