All of the classes below are for adults and are held here at Wholly Craft (3169 N. High St.). Registration info is at the end. Check out the lengthy summer spread:
Next Step Knitting: Cabled Hat
Saturdays July 5th and 12th, 1-3pm
Class Fee: $25
Thinking of moving beyond the knitted scarf? Libby of Wonderknits will be in the shop to guide you to the next level. Learn how to make a lovely cabled hat in two fun sessions! In addition to making cables, we will also cover the basic mechanics of hat making and how to knit in the round. Skill level: Advanced Beginner

Two Part Book Arts Survey
Sundays July 6th and 13th, 1-4pm

Sundays August 3rd and 10th, 1-4pm
Class Fee: $25
Come join us and learn the skills of book arts. Students will learn the basic ins and outs of the fascinating processes of papermaking and bookbinding, and will take home a completed hand-made book. A demonstration from the pulp preparation to the finished sheet is followed by a hands-on activity in which each participant makes a piece of paper using his or her own pulp recipe and technique. In the second session, the paper sewn together to make a hand-bound book.

Crochet 101
Mondays July 7th and 14th, 6-8pm
Class Fee: $25
Not a knitter? Or maybe looking to drop the needles and pick up a hook? In this workshop you will learn the four basic crochet stitches (single, half double, double, and treble) as well as crochet in the round and corkscrews. From that point on you’ll be ready to tackle almost any project! No previous experience necessary!
Materials Needed: a solid color worsted weight yarn and size E, F, or G crochet hook
Basic Lace Knitting
Wednesday, July 9th, 6:30-8pm
Class Fee: $15
This crash course will cover everything you need to know to get started knitting lace. Libby of Wonderknits will be back to show you the basic skills necessary to knit lace. You’ll learn how to read charts and make your first simple lace scarf.

Tag!!... You’re It!
Thursday, July 10th, 6:30-8:30pm
Class Fee: $15
Be the coolest chick when you give a gift with a unique, rockin’ tag! Or, attach to a card for the best card you could send! Veteran paper aritist Heidi Kinnamon will teach you batik techniques, paper ironing, color wash, distress, glitter glue and more. Each tag uses several products and teaches one or more skills that can be used in other crafts. We will try to make at least three to four tags each. Tag! You’re it!

Introduction to French Beaded Flowers

Don’t miss your chance to learn this beautiful, but little-known craft! In this class, we’ll transform seed beads and wire into a unique, 3D rose pendant that will wow your friends. We’ll learn the basic techniques as well as continuous and double continuous loops. Materials will be provided. Arrive early to get your choice of colors.

Beginning Knitting

It might be warm outside, but it’s never too early to start stocking up on scarves for the fall! And it’s always the perfect time of year to learn a new skill. This class is for absolute beginners---we’ll start with the basics and move on up to some serious scarf making. Seasoned knitter Adrienne of the Crafty Beavers will teach us casting-on, basic knit and purl stitches, changing colors, and casting-off. In this class we’ll make an ipod/cell phone cozie and a scarf. All materials for the cozie will be provided and the materials list for the scarf will be discussed on the first night.

Jewelry Design and Creation
Thursday, July 17th, 6-8pm
Class Fee: $15
Interested in making your own jewelry, but don’t know where to start? Start here! In this workshop, we’ll learn basic jewelry design and approaches. Our newfound skills will be applied toward the creation of five unique pairs of earrings. A variety of beads and charms will be provided along with silver plated jewelry findings, but participants are welcome to also bring along their favorite beads.

Sizzling Summer Sweater
Saturdays, July 19th and August 2nd, 1-3pm
Class Fee: $25
Stylish and bold, this sweater can be worn as a sexy v neck tank in summer or as a vest in winter. We’ll all get started together on the 19th, then come back together to do the waist shaping on the 2nd.

Japanese Paper Lanterns

Instructor Heidi Kinnamon is back to teach you how to make a Japanese Paper Lantern. Great lighting for a Porch Party!You will learn to use Color Wash and how to iron paper. Perfect for a votive candle too! If time permits, we will make two lanterns.

Intro to Embroidery
Sunday July 20th, 1-3pm
Class Fee: $15
Do you dream of having a stitched pinup or darling dachshunds on your pillow or skirt? Well here’s your chance to make it happen! In this workshop, you will learn several basic embroidery stitches and how to work the necessary tools. Also, you’ll learn multiple fun and easy image transfer methods to ensure that almost any image will be ready to be rocked (with an embroidery needle) onto your fabric. Local designer Amy D has been incorporating embroidery into her designs for years and will share all the best tricks of the trade!
Materials Fee: $5 (includes all tools and one Sublime Stitching pattern of your choice! Examples above!)
Next Step Knitting: Baby Sweater

Welcome a new baby with this adorable simple baby sweater! Libby of Wonderknits will guide you through all the basics of this project. This is a great class for knitters ready to move beyond the scarf.

Polymer Clay Jewelry
Thursday, July 24th, 6:30-7:30pm
Class Fee: $15
Learn how to make fun, funky jewelry out of polymer clay! In this class, learn a unique but basic polymer clay technique that will result in an eye-catching piece of jewelry. We will go over the basics; how to condition clay, make a jelly roll as well as simple techniques to give your piece a swirled-effect. The instructor will also go over basic tips in regards to clay storage, baking temperatures and care. In this class you can make a ring with an adjustable base (one size fits most) or a pendant. There will be an assortment of colors to choose from. Please specify if you want to make a pendant or ring when registering for this class.

Asphalt Gardening
Sunday, July 27th, 2:30-4pm

Think you need a lawn to start a garden? Think again! Community Gardener of the Year Trish will help you design and build your own mobile garden to take home and bloom. You’ll learn the lasagna layering technique for creating a thriving mobile garden. Most materials will be provided, including basic seeds, but please bring any specific plants (flowers or herbs) that you’d like to include in your garden.
Materials Fee: $5. Please bring 1 cardboard box (12x12 or larger).
Product Photography
Sunday, July 27th, 5:30-7:30pm
Class Fee: $15
Are you frustrated that your photos always look flat and washed out? Annoyed with weird shadows and yellowy casts? Don't despair! Join Amy Neiwirth of Sweet Stella Designs to explore various techniques to help you get the best product photos possible. Learn about cheap and easy lighting, exposure compensation, and light diffusing. Also learn some quick Photoshop tips to fix photos that didn't come out so great. At the end of the class, you will be creating your own home-made light boxes to take home and use!
Materials Fee: $5 Please bring your digital camera, a utility knife, a cardboard box (about 12 x 12" or larger) and 3 of your creations to photograph. All other materials will be provided.
Amigurumi Crochet
Mondays, July 28th and August 4th, 6-8pm
Class Fee: $25
You’ve seen these adorable creatures everywhere, now learn to create them yourself! During this class you will lean the fundamentals of this popular Japanese craft while crocheting your own amigurumi octopus. Very basic crochet skills required.
Materials Fee: $5 Please bring yarn of your choice and a crochet hook smaller than the suggested gauge.
Gocco Printing
Wednesday July 30th, 6-8pm

What is the magical screenprinting machine that revolutionized home stationery in Japan in the 1970’s? Well, it’s the Print Gocco and it’s finally picking up steam in the U.S! 1 out of every 3 households in Japan own this little wonder that can burn a screen in seconds and easily print any small image onto greeting cards, paper, and more! Jessie is a veteran Gocco enthusiast and is eager to teach you the ways of the Gocco. If you’ve ever considered screenprinting paper, don’t miss your chance to work with the machine that could make your life easier!

Tshirt Reconstruction
Thursday July 31st, 6:30-8pm
Class Fee: $15
Do you have a drawer of old T-shirts that never see the light of day? Bust them out and learn to transform them into fashions you’ll be itching to wear! You’ll love the blend of comfort and style that results! In this workshop, we’ll cover several no-sew and simple techniques that can be used in a variety of projects. Then we’ll transform a couple of shirts into new tops and skirts on the spot.
Materials Needed: Please bring 2-5 old shirts to transform.
Personalized Stepping Stones

@ Urban Gardener’s Farmers Market in the SuziQ Parking Lot on 4th St.

Craft Camp goes on the move to this Community event! Get outdoors and bring the entire family to this workshop taught by Trish, Columbus’s very own Community Gardener of the Year. You’ll forgo the overpriced, store-bought kits to learn DIY techniques for making personalized stepping stones for your garden or outdoor space. Everyone will walk away with 1 stepping stone and the skills needed to make many more. Please bring any small objects (e.g. matchbox cars, jewelry, buttons) you’d like to embed in your stone and a garbage bag to transport it home.

Three Part Book Arts Survey
Wednesdays August 6th, 13th, 20th. 6:30-9pm
Class Fee: $35
Come join us and learn the skills of book arts. Students will learn the basic ins and outs of the fascinating processes of papermaking and bookbinding, and will take home a completed hand-made book. A demonstration from the pulp preparation to the finished sheet is followed by a hands-on activity in which each participant makes a piece of paper using his or her own pulp recipe and technique. In the second session, a brief introduction to the history of printmaking will then be followed by a hands-on activity in which the students will create their own suite of prints. In the final session, the paper created and printed will be sewn together to make a hand-bound book.

Advanced Knitting: Toe Up Socks!
Thursdays, August 7th, 14th, and 21st, 6:30-8pm
Class Fee: $35
Learn a fascinating new technique to creating socks! Over three sessions, Libby of Wonderknits will guide you through this out-of-the-ordinary technique for knitting socks. Whether you are a seasoned sock knitter ready for a new horizon or a sock novice, this is a great class.

Fair Isle Knitting: Crash Course!
Saturday, August 9th, 1-3pm

Learn the secrets of Fair Isle knitting in this 2 hour technique workshop. We’ll discuss how to read a chart, learn techniques for multi color knitting, and practice together by making a Fair Isle swatch.

LED Bracelet

Dive into the wonderful world of wearable technology! Instructor Alison Coleman of The Fuse Factory (www.thefusefactory.org) will teach you to use soft circuit LED lights in the creation of a simple, yet dazzling wristband. You’ll be guaranteed to light up a room in your new creation!

Stitched Bookbinding
Mondays August 11th and 18th, 6-8pm

Looking to create your own journals or notebooks? Or how about sprucing up a long letter to a pen pal? In this class you’ll learn stab and coptic stitched bookbindings over the course of two sessions. No previous experience required.

3D Needle Felting
Sunday August 17th, 2-4:30pm
Class Fee: $15
Create your own cuddly creature to take home! This class is an introduction to the basic technique of dry needle felting using a .38 gauge needle. We will be using a high quality corriedale wool that is naturally dyed and best for dry needle felting. Everyone will have the opportunity to make their very own surprise wool felted animal!! Which animal? You’ll have to take the class to find out!

Intermediate French Beaded Flowers
Sundays August 17th and 24th , 5-8pm

Roses are timeless—especially this one, which will bloom for longer than a lifetime! Expanding on the skills learning in the intro class, we will create an exquisite black rose with baby’s breath, ready to display in your home or use as the prefect gift. We will read a complete pattern, tape stems, learn to assemble and finish a complete flower, and practice sculpting the flower into a life-like shape. We will also discuss books, supplies, resources, and tools that will help you continue to learn this amazing craft.

Sewing Lab
Saturday August 23rd, 1-2:30pm

Do you spend more time staring at or fiddling with your sewing machine than actually putting it to use? Emily of Umbrella Girl Productions has been sewing for over a decade and can certainly help you win the battle between human and machine. She specializes in older models but can also work a basic modern model (no computerized models, please). Proper maintenance and care will also be covered during this lab. In order to ensure personalized instruction, the lab is limited to 3 people, so reserve your spot quickly!
Sew Basic
Saturday August 23rd., 3-5pm

Whether you’re looking to create a fashion vision or just alter a piece that no longer fits, this is the class for you! Emily of Umbrella Girl Productions will be back to teach some basic hand sewing skills and demonstrate several sewing techniques to make and alter simple garments. Additionally we will talk about patterns, selecting fabrics, and sewing notions. Please bring a shirt or skirt you’d like to learn to alter.
Project Tote Bag

Need a better bag to carry all your projects-in-progress? How about a simple sewing project to refresh your skills? Well, you’ve found just the right workshop! Super crafty local designer Amy D will guide us through creating the perfect tote bag using a Burda Style pattern is that easy-to-follow and perfect for beginners. The instructor is tons of fun, and the project is gorgeously functional. And you’ll walk away with newfound skills along with your awesome bag. This is not to be missed!

Advanced Book Arts

This two-day intensive course will build upon the skills learned in Book Arts Survey (2 or 3 part) classes earlier this summer. Students will learn advanced techniques for papermaking, printing , and bookbinding and will leave with the knowledge and ability to create permanent pieces of art.

Back to School Scarf

As camp ends, school must begin! At this point, scarf season is quickly approaching. Get ready for fall with a Mistake Rib scarf in your school colors—or just your favorite colors!
